„When you’ve made
two films with Storch you develop 2 CONVERSATIONS from: "ABSURD 3000", no. 2 In JOURNEY INTO BLISS you play Captain Gustav.
It has been pointed out to us that you have your first sex scene. One of your fellow actors is a fully grown bear. What was it like working with him? I´m an animal lover and we had a load of fun together. But you gotta be careful with those guys. I can tell you, I didn’t go in for much stroking. But he was wild about my dachshund´s doggie biscuits, which sure put me in his good books. Which scene is on the shcedule for this evening? Well, I couldn’t say exactly. Wenzel always tells me just as we’re about to begin so that he catches me by surprise and I don’t have a chance to say “no”. Didn’t you read the screen-play beforehand? Not a page of it. I know nothing. (At that moment Wenzel comes into the room: "Jürgen, you’ve got ten minutes, then you’re on.") I need a bit of time because of this goddam diving bell. It really is torture. It’s not until you’ve been stuck in the thing for a quarter of an hour that it starts to get really interesting. Everything goes numb. When it was hotter we were doing exterior shots. I just had a thin shirt on and looked like some sado-maso – my whole body covered in welts. When I came home my wife just kept her eyes closed.
from SCHÄDELSPALTER (Skull-splitter Magazine), December 1999: It looks pretty cosy in that diving suit. How did it feel wearing it? Hideous! Try walking around all day with a great spherical contraption around your belly and your arms and legs stuck in plastic tubes. How do you relax after a long day on the set? I down a couple of beers. You´ve got to work off the stress somehow. Or I take a walk with my wife and the dog. Die beiden waren übrigens im letzten Film auch zu sehen, als sie versehentlich durchs Bild gelaufen sind. What did you do to prepare for the role of the hero Gustav? Absolutely nothing. What I do, is what you get! I don’t know the screenplay and I don’t know the plot. I prefer it that way. I just stick to what Wenzel tells me to do. That way I can’t be out of order. Do you have any role models? Everyone has their own favourites. The wild west has always been it for me.Unfortunately, all the old heroes like John Wayne have moved on to the happy hunting grounds in the sky. I can watch their films over and over. They were great craftsmen. Just like Wenzel is now!
What the press says about
Jürgen Höhne ROLLING STONE The role of the Captain was taken on by the great Jürgen Höhne “just for the hell of it”, as he himself puts it – a man who, until he went into early retirement, used to drive tanker trucks from Hamburg to Bordeaux, who appeared in Wenzel Storch’s début film THE GLAMOUR OF THESE DAYS and who gave an unforgettable performance as Conny Kramer in SUMMER OF LOVE. TITANIC Höhne doesn’t have any role-models, but idols, yes: ”John Wayne and the old Western generation. But I don’t see much young blood in the genre. And in Germany the outlook is really gloomy. Since Kinski: not a shimmer of hope!” For the time being Höhne is looking forward to the film première. Until then he’ll be with his wife, going for „walks, walks, and more walks.“ DIE ZEIT |
